The Ehlers-Danlos Society has elected Dr. Woodrow Gandy of Dallas and Philip Hotchkiss of San Francisco to its board of directors.

Dr. Woodrow Gandy attended the University of Texas as an undergraduate and obtained his medical degree from U.T. Southwestern Medical School in Dallas before completing residency training in internal medicine at the University of California, Sacramento and San Francisco General Hospital.

He practiced medicine in the Dallas area, serving as Chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Baylor Medical Center at Irving until co-founding T-System, Inc., a revolutionary medical informatics company which now serves hospitals in all 50 states as well as military facilities.

Dr. Gandy is a past chairman and current director of Medisend International, a public charity that serves hospitals in the developing world as well as providing biomedical technical training to veterans through the General Richard B. Meyers Veterans Program. An active investor in early-stage life science companies, Dr. Gandy also serves on the boards of medical device, software, and biotechnology companies.

As the father of a daughter with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Dr. Gandy supports and is involved with research to improve our understanding of the various Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) and to develop more effective specific treatments.

To “Ehlers-Danlos warrior,” FinTech innovator, and serial entrepreneur, Philip Hotchkiss lives by the personal motto, “adapt & grow.”

An Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award winner, Philip is a retired five-time technology start-up entrepreneur having served in roles ranging from Founder and CEO, President and CEO, and Chief Product Officer.

As the president and CEO of Philip Hotchkiss LLC, Philip now enjoys providing strategic business development, investment, product development, and senior leadership coaching services to both established and startup technology companies from Silicon Valley to Hong Kong.

Philip achieved early success in his entrepreneurial journey as the 25-year-old Founder, Chairman, and CEO of BigCharts Inc. BigCharts’ mission was to become the worldwide standard in online financial charting for self-directed investors. It achieved its purpose by earning a 94% global market share, a business model that generated fast-growing, profitable software as a service (SaaS) revenues and a technology platform that served 1.4 billion pages of dynamically generated financial content per month.  BigCharts was acquired CBS MarketWatch.com Inc. which at the time was a publicly traded company.

After the acquisition, Philip served as CBS MarketWatch’s president and a member of its board of directors. Philip continued his startup journey as an investor, board member and CEO of Talkingpoint, Chief Product Officer at Klout, Chief Product Officer at Get Satisfaction, and as an investor and Chief Product Officer at CareWire Inc.

Philip has consistently brought new online products to market rich in consumer engagement that delivers business value to companies ranging from small-to-medium size businesses (SMB) to Fortune 500 companies spanning financial services, media, consumer packaged goods, consumer market research, mobile health and social media industries.

A native of Minneapolis, MN, Philip graduated cum laude from Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, MN, with degrees in English and Business. He received the Gustavus Adolphus Alumni Association’s First Decade Award for leading his class in professional achievement.

Philip also received a Certificate in Legal Studies, Anglo-American, Contract, and International Law from Durham University of Durham, England.

Philip now lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife and two teenage children. His passions include classical piano, landscape photography, reading at least one audiobook a week, and a love of science.
